Oh Oh...Fire in Bisbee

Looks like we've got ourselves a situation here...

At about 11 a.m. this morning, a fire began while crews were removing a power pole that showered sparks on the dry brush near the Divide in Bisbee. The fire rapidly spread up the hill and then down the other side.

The Highland Park area on West Blvd. has been mandatorily evacuated. Hopefully those homes will remain intact.

As I write this, I am hearing and seeing planes flying overhead to dump fire retardant on the fire and keep it from spreading. Hwy 80 is closed to thru traffic all the way to the junction at 90 heading toward Sierra Vista. Smoke fills the air.

Since there are seven, count 'em, seven fire departments fighting the blaze, I'm hoping for the best.

  1. Yikes! Head for the hills, no wait, that won't work either!

  2. It's been pretty amazing watching all the planes dropping fire retardant. Usually fairly quiet around here (well, except for motorcycles and wild parties in the Gulch).

Right, HCA...not heading for the hills!
